Hello,

I currently use Relief Maker 2, and I am very interested in Relief Maker 3.0 for a CNC / laser / product design workshop workflow.

For real production use, the following features would be extremely useful:

  1. Complete heightmap export

  • 32-bit EXR
  • 16-bit TIFF
  • 16-bit PNG
  • normal map
  • STL / OBJ
  • SVG contour or silhouette
  • clear indication of whether white = high or white = low

  1. Workshop metadata

Each export should ideally include:

  • physical X/Y dimensions
  • maximum Z depth
  • units used
  • resolution
  • scale
  • relief type: raised / sunken / projection
  • software version
  • settings used

  1. Exportable presets

It would be very useful to save all settings as a JSON or text file, including:

  • Max Angle
  • Height Scale
  • Blur
  • Contour Step
  • Form / Mid / Fine
  • Bevel
  • Invert Relief
  • Resolution
  • Crop
  • source file
  • export format

  1. Batch processing

The ability to apply the same preset to multiple images or models would be very useful.

  1. Command line / API

A command-line option would be extremely useful for integrating Relief Maker into an automated workflow, for example:

<span>reliefmaker --input image.png --preset preset.json --output output_folder</span>

  1. Separate exports

For workshop use, it would be very useful to export separate files such as:

  • preview.png
  • heightmap.exr
  • heightmap.png
  • contour.svg
  • mask.png
  • relief.stl
  • metadata.json

  1. Protected zones / masks

It would be very useful to protect or control specific areas, such as:

  • flat background
  • raised subject
  • separate text area
  • separate logo area
  • separate border area

Thank you.

Bonjour,

J’utilise Relief Maker 2 et je suis très intéressé par Relief Maker 3.0 pour un flux atelier CNC / laser / design produit.

Pour une utilisation en production réelle, voici les fonctions qui seraient extrêmement utiles :

1. Export heightmap complet
- EXR 32-bit
- TIFF 16-bit
- PNG 16-bit
- normal map
- STL / OBJ
- SVG contour ou silhouette
- indication claire : blanc = haut ou blanc = bas

2. Métadonnées atelier
Chaque export devrait pouvoir inclure :
- dimensions physiques X/Y
- profondeur Z maximale
- unité utilisée
- résolution
- échelle
- type de relief : raised / sunken / projection
- version du logiciel
- paramètres utilisés

3. Presets exportables

reliefmaker --input image.png --preset preset.json --output output_folder

6. Exports séparés
Pour atelier, ce serait très utile d’avoir :
- preview.png
- heightmap.exr
- heightmap.png
- contour.svg
- mask.png
- relief.stl
- metadata.json

7. Zones protégées / masques
Pouvoir protéger certaines zones :
- fond plat
- sujet en relief
- texte séparé
- logo séparé
- bordure séparée

Merci.

Hi, it is a good news.
It can be good if you can add a rotation menu while importing 3D model as in the image.

Very exciting news.
For my applications, it would be great to have an option to control the thickness of the backing geometry, both when exporting "foreground only" and with general background. Looking forward to following the release.

Best regards,

This is done :D

Hi Max,

A grid overlay feature could also be very helpful. Here I am only thinking about guides for alignment and not necessarily in sense of meassures,
Best regards,

We need a feature that can reposition and align via "snapping" into true center, X, Y, Z with single assets, group assets and assets snapping in relation to one another.

For clarity, what I mean by "snapping" is similar to what the "rotation" feature currently does, where it automatically orients assets based on the numerical value you enter in. Currently it can only snap into different rotations but not actual positions.

I also like the feature how you can enter in the amount it rotates so maybe that can be included with some of the repositioning of assets such as asset 1 snaps side by side to asset 2 with an offset of "2mm" space in between or even asset 1 snapping to exactly 5mm to the left from where it is, etc. Of course this wouldn't be necessary for snapping to true center but will all compliment each other for perfect mathematical alignment for people requiring perfect precision!

These sound great, but it would be really nice if you added more file import types like .fbx, .glb, and .3ds. There's a ton of other resources out there in these older file formats that are still viable models. Also, a close mesh, fill holes or make watertight, something to that effect, and unify normals. Also, having a library of bases to choose from, of various shapes for plaques, that type of thing, and auto dishing, this may be a feature that I'm missing, but something similar to what can be done in Aspire.

Another suggestion, it would be amazing if we can also choose the "backing" of our assets when we generate the relief. Such as different shapes, etc., in different styles that are customisable for different purposes such as backings for pendants with the loops, medallions, coins, displays, etc., with editable boarders, patterns, etc.

Moving a bit away from the elaborate ideas of "backings" when generating the relief, could also have a feature where loops in different styles are added onto the reliefs without backings to be exported too!

All these and many more are completely awesome, but I have not seen any posting of status in weeks, so what is going on with RM3 and when should we at least see a viable release candidate that the average wanker can get their grubby mitts on? Or better yet, an actual release, and finding out just how much an upgrade is going to cost. I was told to wait to upgrade from 1.x since v3 was coming out "Very soon" - well that was quite a few "very soons" ago, SO should I be the perpetual optimist and wait until v3 finally gets released (Very soon) or upgrade to v2 and hope that I can get a reduced or free upgrade to v3 if I've purchased it within a set amount of time just prior to v3s release?

I'd wait.
Last week's Alibre live @Max did a bit of a demo on V3 and it looks very good.
He said "Hopefully a couple of weeks" so should be soon.
As for the price I have no idea.

Ok ok ok! You're right! We know you want it. BUT! We just had to implement alignment and distribution :D

I'm betting we release for Windows next week. Fingers crossed.

We're gonna need plenty of tutorial videos with all the new features you're bringing in. (y)

I almost just asked you to marry me. My god this is Heaven. Sent. Thank you Max!

I remember during the live stream someone asked what is the difference between Relief Maker and the other forgotten apps. This highlights one of the major perks. The devs are still going strong, actively listening to their community to make improvements.

Praise Tha Lawd!
